The Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments

The Exhibition

The Royal Cabinet of Mathematical and Physical Instruments, which has been housed in the Dresdner Zwinger since 1728, is one of the most visited museums of the State Art Collections in Dresden. The museum presents unique scientific exhibits, such as telescopes, globes and watches as a collection of historical instruments that paved the foundation for our current knowledge.

Our Solution

In the course of a planned digitization of the audio guide, we installed shoutr.Boxxes in the entire exhibition area in order to build up an information network that works independently of the in-house WLAN. Visitors have access to the audio guide via the browser on their smartphone. The museum has several film stations, where visitors can listen to explanations of functional aspects of the exhibits. Visitors receive the corresponding audio tracks simultaneously in several languages on their devices.

For the development of the app, shoutr labs cooperated with Linon Media, which was responsible for the conception and for the creation of the content.

We ensure this multilingual and synchronous audio playback through our shoutr.Audiosync. Several loan devices have been set up for the exhibition and since October 2017 the system has replaced the classic audio guide.
Furthermore the additional app, “MPS Museums-Guide”, allows users to save all information about the exhibits on their own device and to download the app all over the world.
